WHO WE ARE
HCRI is a group of patients, caregivers, physicians and attorneys who have personally suffered from the way that private and employer-provided health insurance is currently administered. We have argued with our insurance companies while lying in hospitals stricken with cancer. We have had gravely ill children improperly discharged from hospitals because the insurance company denied covered benefits. Those of us who are physicians have wasted countless hours trying to get coverage for critical medications and procedures for our patients when the few advocates and resources available to us were prohibitively expensive.
With no recourse and nowhere to turn at our moment of crisis, we joined together so that others might never experience this helplessness. We have come together to form the only non-profit in the United States that addresses the critical issues patients with employer-based and private health insurance and their physicians face when dealing with a health crisis. No other organization provides these services for this population either free or at a reduced fee.
As the Trump administration and the new Congress consider the next chapter in health care reform, we are expanding our education mission to provide non-partisan information about reasonable reform of health care policy in the US. Citizens, lawmakers and elected representatives and staff need an accessible, practical resource to understand the implications of any proposed changes in policy.
